TypeSafe AI's Diogo Almeida on why the boring SaaS companies are best positioned to win AI:

Ben: "When the coding agents came out, it was the SaaSpocalypse, and all their values dropped through the floor. Then when Jev came out, every SaaS company is like, 'This is the greatest thing ever.'"

Diogo: "In the SaaSpocalypse story, the story I feel has panned out really poorly is that software is very cheap and perhaps easy to replicate. I could believe the former. I could not believe the latter, because a lot of the stuff happens beneath the hood."

"I think SaaS will be one of the largest winners of the whole AI game."

"I want to work really, really well with the biggest, most boring SaaS companies because I think they're the best positioned to know what workflows to automate, what people need. That's their bread and butter."

"I'm not going to forecast anything about the financial markets. But as far as capabilities go, I think it's going to be like an inverse SaaSpocalypse. I'm so jazzed about it."

Even more exciting than the record breaking adoption (nearly 1/3 of the Fortune 500 is already using Jev) is the broader explosion of creativity and optimism that @typesafeai has unleashed.

Couldn't put it better than @CompleteSkeptic: "the narrative of software being over is so over."

Get out there and Jev Jev Jev.

Your next users are machines

Agents burn nearly 5x the tokens people do, up 14x in six months

a16z@a16z · Oct 8

AI agents don't use the cloud like humans do. AWS CEO Matt Garman on rewiring AWS for its newest "users":

"Increasingly we're seeing teams that want a cloud that is great to work with agents and not just with people."

" We've doubled down on things like starting a database in three seconds and some capabilities that agents are excited about."

"Many agents wanna create a database, do a little bit of work, and then have the database go away. You don't really need that database to have five nines of durability."

"There are new building blocks that agents are gonna want that we just didn't really need before: compute sandboxes, gateways, agent permissions versus people or service role permissions."

" A lot of those are things that we have built and are building and thinking actively about because they are just brand-new building blocks. It's not using the existing building blocks differently."

ATLAS is the hardest search eval in the world.

Existing search evals are too easy for frontier models (saturated) and have already been trained on (contaminated).

We created hundreds of real-world valuable search tasks that frontier models score <50%

To keep it fresh and uncontaminated, we'll recreate the whole benchmark every couple months and release it for others to build on.

Exa@ExaAILabs · Oct 8

We built ATLAS, a web search benchmark for how agents actually search today.

Existing agentic search benchmarks are often outdated, contaminated, or saturated. ATLAS is designed to separate strong search from weak search.

Gamma 5 is here! It's a complete overhaul of Gamma to create the most visually stunning decks.

This update allows you to create with our agent from generation to final output. Give our agent all your context, connectors, and visual references, and it will plan out a complete deck that matches what you have in your head.

We've also introduced freeform editing. You can now drag any element anywhere on your slide by hitting "convert to freeform" on the top right.

You have a whole world inside your head. Let Gamma 5 visualize it. ✨

So excited to help our portfolio grow in Japan!!

Fun fact: Enterprise SaaS adoption is accelerating in Japan. And the labor shortage makes AI even more valuable there.

Raghu Raghuram@RaghuRaghuram · Oct 7

a16z is officially in Japan, led by Hitoshi Yoshida as Head of Japan, with the opening of our Japan office.

It was an honor welcoming Governor Koike at the opening earlier today. Japan combines world-class industrial capabilities with growing innovation in AI, cybersecurity, robotics, and defense. By bringing our portfolio companies and the Japanese ecosystem together, we aim to accelerate Japan’s AI-native economy and strengthen the ties between Silicon Valley and Japan.

As the former President of Microsoft Japan and Hewlett-Packard Japan, Hitoshi brings decades of technology leadership and deep relationships across business, industry, and government. We’re thrilled to have him lead our efforts in Japan and look forward to doing great work in partnership with the Japanese technology community.

Introducing Gamma 5. Our biggest update ever.

We completely rebuilt how Gamma thinks, designs, and edits so you can get presentations that actually match what's in your head and keep your company brand intact. It's an overhaul of our engine from the ground up.

Here's the short version of what's new:

✅ An agent (re)built for visual storytelling: brainstorm, research, and edit with an expert AI partner.

✅ A new level of design freedom: describe the look you want, share visual inspiration, or let Gamma craft a style to match your goal.

✅ Editing any way you want: Freeform, auto, and chatting with our agent give you more visual range than ever before.

✅ High-fidelity import and export: bring in PowerPoints, PDFs, and your company brand and Gamma will match it every time.

✅ All your tools, connected: build directly from your content in Slack, Notion, Salesforce, and more. And create gammas from Claude and ChatGPT.

Get your ideas out there. ✨

What’s so interesting about this is that SpaceX is getting to eat their cake and have it too - they get the benefits of being a lab, vertical integration into inference, and being a Cursor style router.

They have a SOTA model so labs can’t bully them, they can capture margin on 3P models through inference, and somehow (Elon!) they have access to Suno and MJ as well. They can offer the overall best, the pareto best or the best for a tail modality and the house always wins.

Amazing on so many levels.

Elon Musk@elonmusk · Oct 7

Important note regarding Grok @bot:

Going forward, @SpaceX will use the best back end model for any given task, including Claude Opus 5.5, MidJourney, Suno and other leading APIs.

Whatever is most likely to give you the best outcome.

We completely rebuilt how Gamma thinks, designs, and edits to become a visual storytelling engine.

Gamma 5 is live today.

Grant Lee@thisisgrantlee · Oct 6

Everyone is sick of generic AI, including us.

Gamma was the first AI presentation platform to reach real scale. But now that AI tools are everywhere, everything looks the same.

Earlier this summer, we came to an uncomfortable conclusion: without a step change in visual variety, Gamma’s output would look and feel too similar to all the other AI tools. The entire point of a presentation is to help someone "get" your idea, to see it as unique and do something with it.

We started over. Today we're shipping Gamma 5, the biggest product overhaul in our company's history.

We rebuilt Gamma to create presentations that actually look like you and your brand. Your teams can design anything they dream up, following your brand's aesthetic or something entirely new, with every frontier and image model under the hood. And the same goes for your docs, social assets, and graphics.

We revamped our agent, design tools, editing, import, export, connectors, and more.

Get your ideas out there.

Ok - trusted agent protocols are going to be very important and quite a key battle ground between agents and service providers over the coming years.

This one is very cool!

Today, we're open-sourcing the Personal Agent Consent & Trust Protocol (PACT), co-developed by @Instinct. We're also joining the Personal Agent Protocol working group by @Muse.

Built on A2A and OAuth, PACT enables businesses to verify who a personal agent is acting for and what the customer has authorized it to do.

Excited to shape the industry standard for how personal agents will interact with businesses.
