We’re so excited to announce that we’re leading TypeSafe AI's Series A:

"Like @TypeSafeAI, we believe the future of SaaS and software is bright. And AI should make software more powerful, and not just automate the recreation of existing software. This spiritual alignment goes back many years. We’ve long been fans of Diogo, the founder and CEO of TypeSafe, and have resonated strongly with his vision that the true bitter lesson is not necessarily about building a new being, but returning the power to builders by giving them the primitives of intelligence then letting them unleash their imagination.

The entire a16z team is excited to partner with TypeSafe. Software continues to eat the world."

a16z is officially in Japan, led by Hitoshi Yoshida as Head of Japan, with the opening of our Japan office.

It was an honor welcoming Governor Koike at the opening earlier today. Japan combines world-class industrial capabilities with growing innovation in AI, cybersecurity, robotics, and defense. By bringing our portfolio companies and the Japanese ecosystem together, we aim to accelerate Japan’s AI-native economy and strengthen the ties between Silicon Valley and Japan.

As the former President of Microsoft Japan and Hewlett-Packard Japan, Hitoshi brings decades of technology leadership and deep relationships across business, industry, and government. We’re thrilled to have him lead our efforts in Japan and look forward to doing great work in partnership with the Japanese technology community.

What could super intelligence mean for America?

Director @skupor joined @Varneyco on @FoxBusiness for his first TV appearance as Vice Chair of the White House Super Intelligence Task Force to talk big opportunities, real risks, and keeping America ahead.

Anyone can get my friend’s real SSN from Claude

I'm Terrified of my data in training sets. Emails in databases. iMessages harvested. Cant trust the cloud as AI is crazy good at hacking

So I built Underdog for myself: on-device AI OS. Capable & 100% local. now my friends love it

Introducing Underdog, your Private Personal AI on devices you already own

Today we're announcing our backing from @a16z @khoslaventures @HummingbirdVC Anthology (@AnthropicAI @MenloVentures) @patrickc @naval @rauchg @polynoamial @Thom_Wolf @Mascobot @tszzl @OfficialLoganK and other top AI leaders

Our mission is to provide free, capable, reliable and private AI to billions of people.

Underdog’s Law: today’s frontier intelligence reaches your devices in six months.

We’re starting with fast, capable AI that runs on consumer hardware. By co-designing models and inference engines, we’re pushing the frontier of capability, speed, power and data efficiency.

Our research also spans agentic commerce, confidential inference, and how AI will reshape the internet economy.

Privacy and capability no longer needs to be a tradeoff. If you believe in this future, join us. Time to build.

Announcing The Horowitz Andreessen Academy.

The internet made it possible to know anything. AI makes it possible to do anything.

The best assignments now are problems so hard they cannot be solved without AI. The Academy courses follow the same logic and will be taught by world-class leaders.

The most talented young people today rarely have their sharpest peers within walking distance. Their network is online. Those networks are real, but they're thin.

The next generation will not be taught the way the last one was. The Academy is built for that world, and it begins in San Francisco.

If you're young, hungry and love building things, apply for the Founding Class Fellowship.

Join us at Paid in Full!

For many of us who grew up as outsiders, hip hop gave us a sense of identity and a way to belong to something.

This is an important and utterly cool way to support the culture that supported so many of us.

Introducing The Horowitz Andreessen Academy.

This talk between @bhorowitz and @Nas @SteveStoute is incredible. They cover the story of rap’s early days as a cultural force and the work of the @paidinfullorg

.@bhorowitz on putting rap lyrics in his book, and the criticism he got for it in Silicon Valley:

"I think in life it's impossible to do anything great if you start with what's possible. You have to start with what's right... It may not be possible, but at least you have a chance to do something great."

"Hip-hop's not that big. The guys who made the art form are not that many, and so why can't we honor them? It didn't make any sense to me."

"You guys were very kind saying I wasn't a beneficiary. I'm a big beneficiary of Caz and Nas and Rakim, in that you all were the inspiration to my career."

"[Their music is] what got me through very, very difficult times in business, so hard that I wrote a best-selling book about how hard it was. And in the book I had the rap lyrics."

"In Silicon Valley, I actually got a lot of criticism for it. 'What are you doing with hip-hop? Is that some kind of gimmick?' And I was like, no, this is credit where credit is due."

"The ideas that I had in business came from those lyrics. That's why the chapters, that's why the idea started with the lyric, because that's where the idea started."

"So [the Paid in Full Foundation] was my chance to, in my mind, just do what was right and pay it back."

@bhorowitz @GrandmasterCaz @Nas

I’ve been the last 2 years, a good time indeed. Learning about how things like this help the folks that paved the way is special.
