Mary Grace Mangano

no better way to start the week 🙂‍↕️

If you are in the Philly area on October 20, please join us for an evening with Ryan Wilson @dpatsheehan @MG_Mangan0 @everseradio and please share with anyone you know who might be interested in coming.

Student: “Would you like to read this short story I wrote? I know that’s kind of your thing.”

Me: 😁

My review of a new book, out this September, on spiritual direction for writers, is up on Jesuit Media Lab today!

My essay on Joan of Arc — who inspired Mark Twain and Friedrich Schiller and George Bernard Shaw and Tchaikovsky and Voltaire — is available at @DappledThings1 ! dappledthings.org/deep-down-thin…

Pro tip: instead of setting a ten minute timer, just listen to the ten minute version of All Too Well 🤎

Grateful to have contributed an essay in this wonderful new book alongside many friends!

Over on Everyday Delight today, I’m sharing about the brilliant and beautiful Courtney Kampa and her impact on me. Of interest @MarkGWagenaar @verilymag @lithub @timothygreen @RattlePoetry @Katie_Dozier substack.com/@marygracemang…

Excited to share the latest issue of NVR, out today! As always, it’s great to work with @StevenEKnepper & @dacooperpoet and to read the wonderful submissions we received.

Sitting here marveling over the concept of public libraries. All these books they let you read! For free! So cool.

This morning, my bf @RobbingOldFolks sent me this video & the combination of sports and philosophy is so on brand for me that I had to share it here. Also very timely due the #worldcup ⚽️ youtu.be/PjV9eZzNs2g?is…

Excited that my poem “Botanical” has been published in the new issue of Pulsebeat, alongside lots of poet friends and poets I admire. Thank you to editor David Stephenson! pulsebeatpoetry.com/pulsebeat-14/m…

I’ve joined the Subst*ck set and have been sharing my weekly “delights” there. Among other things, this week, I’m excited to share a poem I wrote for @jesuitnews Jesuit Media Lab for their “Praise Enough” series. You can check it out in my post!

Would genuinely like to know where those single socks go after the dryer cycle. 😬

My students just spontaneously performed their own modern version of Act 3, Scene 1 from Romeo & Juliet (which we finished reading this week). To say I am delighted is an understatement! ☺️

Today’s the day! It’s Shakespeare’s birthday and our Translations Special Issue for @newversereview has launched! Enjoy this wonderful issue, representing 15 languages! open.substack.com/pub/newversere…

Breaking my Lent temporarily to say I just received my copy of THINK which includes my poem “Late Bloomer” and many other wonderful poems! 🌺

Before signing off for Lent, I am honored to share a poem that appears in the Fall/Winter ‘25 issue of @subtropicsmag. Thanks to Ange Mlinko & team for taking this poem, which is a special one for me. Pictured here are my poem, the issue, & me & my beloved Grandpa at the piano.

Started teaching my poetry unit on the same day I was teaching Book 10 of Plato’s Republic, where he criticizes poetry pretty intensely for being far from the truth. Awkward. 😬

I may or may not have cried watching this. What an incredible story to remember. I can only hope this year’s Olympics can have a similarly miraculous and unifying impact. 🇺🇸
