@maryraphaela @SallyThomasNC @MidgeGoldberg

I am deeply honored to have won the 2025 J.F. Powers Prize for Fiction, for my short story "Minus World." I look forward to you all being able to read it in the pages of @DappledThings1 later this year.

Congrats to Olakunle and Mohammad as well, and to all the writers here.

It has been a long road, but at last, we have a magazine.

Very pleased to announce the arrival of my first short story collection from the wonderful New Orleans-based @lavender_ink_pr

I'm delighted to be featured in the latest issue of @maryraphaela's Talk to Me in Long Lines. My poem "A Letter to Joel" is a Horatian epistle written to my friend Joel on his application to architecture school. You can read the rest at the link below, along with stellar poems by @SallyThomasNC, @cwlingner, and Brennan O'Donnell!

Many of you know that @ablemuse Press has published more #NewFormalist #poets than any other press this century, including #RhinaEspaillat, @Poochigian, @jennifereeser, @alfred_nicol & many others you had darn well better admire by now.

My friend @DavidYezzi selected #JenniferKeith's book, Terminarch, for one of the Able Muse awards a few years ago.

Jennifer is what I would call a #NewFormalist fellow traveler. She has some formal poems that could have been written by Alicia Stallings, poems where you can see their grounding in traditional prosody, and some accessible free verse in the vein of #CarolynKizer or #TedKooser.

I am afraid that #AlexPepple at Able Muse is no longer giving Juster discounts, but don't let that stop you from checking out this book.

@LindsaySchlegel reviews @SallyThomasNC's novel Works of Mercy:
"The cat is helpless; Kirsty can serve as a caregiver. Fr. Schuyler is young and inexperienced; Kirsty has a maturity born of decades’ more life experience. The Malkins are overwhelmed, to the point that their marriage crumbles; Kirsty has margin in her days to respond to their needs and be a source of stability and strength. But make no mistake: None of these relationships is one-sided. Kirsty never explicitly doubts the value of her life, yet initially there is a sense that her better years are past. What’s left is a kind of quiet waiting, a perseverance until the natural end comes."

I'm honored to learn that The Locust Years has been selected by WORLD as "best" in their poetry category for the year, and is honorably mentioned for best book of 2025.

A very encouraging review: "...A real contribution to the robust canon of Christian poetry."
