NASA Moon Base

To the Moon and back again. 🌕🚀

Artemis II astronauts Reid Wiseman and Christina Koch return to #HWHAP to reflect on their historic journey around the Moon, the moments that moved them, and what it’s like to come home after traveling farther than any humans before them. go.nasa.gov/4rSO8Bq

"There are no adjectives. I'm going to need to invent some new ones to describe what we are looking at out this window."

Listen to newly-released recordings from the Artemis II lunar flyby — and hear more from our lunar scientists — in a recent episode of Houston We Have a Podcast: go.nasa.gov/4eqiiGD

America will establish a permanent presence on the moon. 🚀🌕

This could be YOU.

Over the last week, NASA flight directors monitored the Crew-13 launch and Crew-12 return from their console in Mission Control Houston. Applications are open right now for our next class of flight directors! Want to join the team? Visit go.nasa.gov/BeAFlightDirec… to learn how.

You could lead missions to the @Space_Station, the Moon, and beyond!

Apply to be a flight director by Oct. 12: go.nasa.gov/4zauIdJ

“We had to find a way and we did. Looking back, we were the luckiest people in the world; there was no choice but to be pioneers.” —Margaret Hamilton

Rest in peace, Margaret. Your trailblazing work leading the development of the on-board flight software for the Apollo spacecraft will forever be remembered. 🫡

Artemis II update! We just dropped 814GB of observations — including nearly 1,000 new images and 521 minutes of crew audio — in our Artemis II Preliminary Lunar Science Report: go.nasa.gov/3TKBfwz

You watched. You listened. And now, you can read about what we learned. 🌙

Today, the @NASAArtemis II Lunar Science Report is publicly accessible, allowing the scientific community to continue studying and building on Artemis II observations. Read more here: go.nasa.gov/Artemis2LunarS…

Giant Rocket. Small Payloads. Big Science

What exactly is a secondary payload? And how can something about the size of a small microwave help advance science in space?
Tune in to this edition of Nerdy Words to learn about secondary payloads and CubeSats and how they can make a big impact.

These are the engines that will help return American astronauts to the surface of the Moon, and they’re ready for Artemis IV.

A huge library of Artemis II data just dropped! Science is a relay race, and today marks the latest in a long series of handoffs. 814 GB of observations. 996 new images. 521 min of never-before-released crew audio.

Dig in: go.nasa.gov/Artemis2LunarS…

The Artemis III crew and @USNavy teams recently practiced hoist operations in San Diego as part of recovery training.

Training during the day and at night helps the crew become familiar with the wind, noise, and sea spray they will experience during splashdown and recovery.

You can be part of our next giant leap! @NASAJohnson is hiring its next class of flight directors. From the International @Space_Station to the Moon and beyond, join the team making history.

Applications close on Oct. 12: go.nasa.gov/4ysM8Cq

Mission by mission, step by step, NASA is building toward an enduring human presence on the Moon.

A new NASA white paper outlines how communications, navigation, timing, and lunar surface observation capabilities are expected to expand as the Moon Base develops and exploration activity increases, including opportunities for industry to contribute.

We’re going back to the Moon to stay. Building a Moon Base means giving American astronauts the infrastructure to explore more, conduct more science, and prepare for missions farther into our solar system. That’s the future we’re working toward at @NASA.

Let's reflect...

Albedo is a measure of how much light and heat a surface reflects. Lighter objects tend to have higher albedo, and darker objects have lower. This reflectivity plays an important role in studying the makeup of the surface of bodies like the Moon.

It's World Space Week!

This year's theme is "Rocket Revolution" — celebrate with us by looking back to the launch of Artemis II, powered by our Space Launch System rocket and its 8.8 million pounds of thrust. Learn more about SLS: go.nasa.gov/4hEftTg
