Forewords to official reviews don't usually stop you in your tracks. Everyone should read Prof Peter Fonagy's 👇
He came to London at 15 with almost no English. Within a year he was severely depressed. What saved him was someone who noticed and got him the help he needed. Now he's led the government's review into mental health, ADHD and autism. It’s an excellent piece of work that shows how big the challenge is.
Nearly a million more working-age adults have a mental health condition limiting their ability to work vs 10 years ago. 1 in 4 young people - up from 1 in 6 - have one. We need to systemise the support that the Prof got - but when we’re spending £25 on benefits for every £1 getting people into work, we know what we have needs to change.
That's a progressive cause and we must move at speed now in changing it.
