A long time ago, I interviewed with a hedge fund at 9 W 57th in a conference room with the most incredible views of the entire Central Park with a late 20-something who'd made the firm something like $2 billion on massive distressed credit bets the year before and had just been named its global head of credit. The next year I read he pulled in over $100 million, and he'd go on to lead the firm.
One of the most intimidating hours of my life. Not a credit guy.

I am so sick of reading my own emails, booking my own flights, ordering my own groceries, texting my own wife, chewing my own food, buying my own sneakers, etc... why isn't anyone building something that just does all of this for me?

Harry Stebbings@HarryStebbings · Oct 5Every seed investment is an option bet.
“You have to think about the venture portfolio as a bunch of options. Each seed investment is an option bet.
You are buying an option to see if it is an outlier, and you want to have enough of those to make sure you have an outlier.
When there is true quantitative evidence that it is going to be an outlier, then you position size up.” @venkyganesan
How do seed funds play in a world where mega funds are totally price insensitive and “option bets” is the mindset for seed checks @infoarbitrage @chudson @hunterwalk @honam @dunkhippo33 @jasonlk

Max Marchione@maxmarchione · Oct 5Interesting creatine data:
Women with depression who added 5g of creatine a day to their SSRI were twice as likely to be depression-free after 8 weeks.
52% vs 26% on SSRI plus placebo.
It's one small trial of 52 women, but very promising!

People who never trained took 10g of creatine a day and gained more lean tissue (2.43 lbs) than people who were lifting 3x a week with no creatine (0.31 lbs).
Here's the breakdown: (1/18)

Packy McCormick@packyM · Sep 28NEW DEEP DIVE
Airbound is my favorite kind of company.
Naman Pushp is making an all-in bet that the bottleneck to moving all movement - of goods and people - to the skies is cost.
He and Airbound are maniacal about lowering the cost per kg-km of flight. To lower it, they vertically integrate, devise novel uses of carbon fibers, and don’t allow themselves to get distracted by such trivialities as near-term commercial traction.
Their newest aircraft - the V2 - carries more than it weighs (Amazon, for comparison, carries 5 lbs with a 78 lb drone).
If they can make flight ridiculously cheap, the logic goes, cheaper than a delivery guy on a bike or scooter, then a car, then a van, then a truck, then a bus, then then then… then they can eat those vehicles’ markets, push an enormous amount of demand into just three platforms (Small, Medium, and Large), bring costs down even further, and create a world in which we fly wherever we want to go, and whatever we want flies to us.
Then, the world reshapes itself around flight, and the earth around humans.
This is a Deep Dive on how they plan to do it.

Researchers at Harvard and Brigham and Women’s Hospital found that transplanted hearts shift toward the biological age of their recipients. Old hearts get younger in young bodies, and young hearts get older in older ones. Which is nuts.
Today, we're launching a partnership with our friends @runwayml to, among other things, bring one of the stories from each week's Dose to life in video. I'm not great at it yet, but not bad for a few prompts! And I'm excited to get better. I have zero talent in film/video, but I can write, which now means that I can make movies. Age of miracles.
