Greg Lukianoff

I've had the pleasure of getting to know @johncleese, whose Life of Brian famously mocked religious dogma. Now someone's reported him to Britain's counterterrorism program for criticizing Islam.

I suspect even Monty Python would have rejected this plot as too absurd.

Knowing Putin, I’m sure he did this out of the goodness of his sweet little heart

I was sure this case was fake.

Guilty of sending naked Shrek to a politician. What are we even doing here?

Every time this kind of thing happens while actual, obvious crimes go uninvestigated and unpunished erodes respect for the law a little more.

IMO this is the single most important issue in modern politics and an absolute fucking disaster for America if we don't fix it.

We get the worst of both parties because of the primary system.

No amount of sportswashing can scrub out the stain of lethal bigotry and religious obscurantism from a country that sentences people to death for blasphemy.

I've written on behalf of @NatSecSoc to the Foreign Secretary and FoRB Envoy, urging them to press their Saudi counterparts for the release of Anojan Sivarasa, convicted of blasphemy against Islam and the prophet Muhammad.

Blasphemy should not be a crime.

Today's morality: you can execute felons via livestreamed firing squad but don't you dare be rude to your computer

Some genuinely good news from the latest College Free Speech Rankings:

For the first time since 2022, student acceptance of using violence to stop a campus speech fell, from 33.6% to 30.5%. Acceptance of shoutdowns fell too.

Backrooms was great

“John Cleese is not a terrorist!
The former Monty Python star’s criticism of Islam is a free-speech matter, not one for government intrusion.”

By @andrewdoyle_com

@JohnCleese has every right to be critical of Islam, if he wishes to be.

I’m genuinely frightened by the direction the UK has gone.

Hope this doesn't mean the administration is once again going to restrict press access for outlets that refuse to adopt its preferred, newly invented terminology. But I'm not optimistic.

Would you rather have fewer dead people or more Uber drivers? Because that’s what’s actually at stake here.

Waymos are over 10x safer than human drivers. They don't drive drunk or text or fall asleep. It’s OK to lose some jobs if it means saving lives.

Can we just…not? Pretty please?

Santa Barbara has beaches, wine, perfect weather, and now, arguments!

I’ll be talking about free speech, censorship, and why disagreement is something a free society has to know how to handle. SECURE YOUR SPOT!👇👇👇

An @AdGo classic

Ithaca's government would be wise to reject this unconstitutional moratorium on Cornell student groups obtaining city permits for protests and other expressive activities.

Citing the alleged sexual assault at a fraternity house, the mayor claims the moratorium is necessary to reduce sexual violence and protect public safety. That's absurd. Barring every student group from obtaining permits for expressive activities bears no reasonable relationship to that goal. The moratorium would apply even to groups with no connection to the incident and to activities that pose no real threat to public safety.

It would simply impose guilt by association, which the Supreme Court has called "a philosophy alien to the traditions of a free society and the First Amendment itself."
