The State Department for Diaspora Affairs(SDDA) today joined the nation in marking the Mazingira Day 2026 .

SDDA staff led Mr. Mongo Chimwaga, Secretary for Administration, who was representing Diaspora Affairs PS, Ms. @roselinenjogu, engaged communities in Mukungu area, Nchoroiboro, Buuri Sub-County in Meru County.

The exercise saw the planting of 100,000 tree seedlings.

In the message delivered by Mr. Chimwaga on behalf of the PS, lauded the Community Forest Associations, the Community, State and non-state entities for taking part in the noble exercise. He added that for attainment of the 15bn trees by 2030, a whole-of-government and a whole--of-society approach is needed.

The PS also lauded Kenyans in the Diaspora for taking part in the conservation efforts through different initiatives at the grassroot level. #TunzaIkulipe #MazingiraDay2026

The Embassy is undertaking a four-day Mobile Consular Services Outreach in Minneapolis, Minnesota, running through 11th October 2026, reaffirming the Government of Kenya’s commitment to bringing essential consular services closer to Kenyans living abroad.

On the sidelines of the outreach, H.E. Amb. David Kerich held a productive engagement with Mr. Patrick Duffy Murphy, Chief Clerk of the Minnesota House of Representatives, exploring opportunities to strengthen institutional cooperation, youth leadership development, civic education and people-to-people exchanges between Kenya and Minnesota.

The discussions highlighted Minnesota’s longstanding Youth in Government Programme, which provides young people with practical exposure to legislative processes, public policy formulation, democratic institutions and leadership. Particular emphasis was placed on expanding opportunities for young people from underserved communities to participate meaningfully in civic affairs.

The two sides explored prospects for adapting the Minnesota model to Kenya, including through county-level youth civic engagement initiatives, collaboration with YMCA institutions and the establishment of structured Kenya–Minnesota youth exchange programmes. Such initiatives would provide young Kenyans with opportunities to gain practical legislative experience, develop leadership skills, broaden their global perspectives and engage with their American counterparts.

The engagement further underscored the importance of building sustainable institutional partnerships that empower the next generation of leaders, promote cross-cultural understanding and strengthen democratic participation.

The Ambassador's engagements, alongside the ongoing mobile consular services, reflect the Embassy’s broader commitment to diaspora-centred service delivery, sub-national diplomacy and the advancement of mutually beneficial Kenya-U.S. partnerships.

The Embassy remains committed to translating these engagements into practical initiatives that strengthen bilateral relations, expand opportunities for Kenyan youth and deepen connections between the peoples of Kenya and the United States.

Amb. Betty Cherwon hosted the newly elected officials of the Kenyans in France Umbrella Association for a courtesy call at the Chancery on 9th October 2026.The meeting discussed matters of interest to the Kenyan diaspora and the motherland.

Amb. Cherwon was accompanied by DHoM Amb. Jane Lusenaka, Minister Counsellor Dennis Muhambe and Immigration Attaché Topister Mukhwaya. The delegation was led by President Leon Kuria with the new leadership and interim committee members.

Still in Phitsanulok, Ambassador Kiruthu engaged with Kenyan students pursuing their studies at Pibulsongkram Rajabhat University (PSRU) under scholarship programmes.

Dr. @MusaliaMudavadi, Prime Cabinet Secretary and Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs, to Parliament to highlight government interventions, measures, and consular processes undertaken for Kenyans caught up in the conflict between Russia and Ukraine.

Through efforts spearheaded by the State Department for Diaspora Affairs, the Prime Cabinet Secretary briefed members that 62 Kenyans have so far been repatriated from Russia.

He added that, through Kenya's diplomatic engagement with Russia in March this year, the government secured Kenya's inclusion on the "Stop List," aimed at preventing further recruitment of Kenyan citizens into the conflict.

Dr. Mudavadi also reaffirmed ongoing efforts including #DiasporaMashinani initiative, which takes relevant information directly to communities at the grassroots level to strengthen safeguards against fraudulent overseas job offers and deceptive recruitment

No Kenyan should be lured into a foreign conflict through false promises of employment. Protecting our people, wherever they are, remains our priority.

Addressing Parliament on Kenyans affected by the Russia–Ukraine conflict, I reported that 62 Kenyans have so far been safely repatriated from Russia, following their involvement on the frontlines.

Our diplomatic engagement with Russia in March secured Kenya’s inclusion on the “Stop List”, aimed at preventing further recruitment of Kenyans into the conflict.

We continue working with relevant authorities and the International Committee of the Red Cross to secure the welfare, release and safe return of those affected, including five Kenyans held as prisoners of war in Ukraine.

Beyond repatriation, we are strengthening safeguards against fraudulent overseas job offers and deceptive recruitment, particularly targeting our young people seeking opportunities abroad.

Every Kenyan life matters. Wherever our citizens are, we will continue working to protect their rights, safety and dignity. 🇰🇪

It was a pleasure to host Kenyans working within the East African Community for an engaging dinner and candid exchange on issues affecting our diaspora community, opportunities for national development, and the role we can collectively play in advancing Kenya’s interests.

Kenyans serving within the EAC are uniquely positioned to be ambassadors of Kenya—building bridges, strengthening partnerships, and championing the values and aspirations of our nation.

We discussed how the Kenyan Consulate in Arusha can work more closely with our community to harness their expertise, networks and experience in support of Kenya’s development and, importantly, in advancing the Jumuiya integration agenda.

Regional integration is ultimately about people. Our people must therefore remain at the heart of the EAC journey. From Kenya to the region, and from the region to shared prosperity—we can work together to make the Jumuiya work for our people.

H.E. Vsevolod Igorevich Tkachenko, Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Kenya-@russembkenya, today paid a courtesy call on the Principal Secretary for Diaspora Affairs, Ms. @roselinenjogu, at the @Diaspora_KE.

The meeting formed part of continued engagement between Kenya and the Russian Federation, following the March 2026 visit to Moscow by H.E. Musalia Mudavadi, Prime Cabinet Secretary and Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs, accompanied by PS Njogu.

Discussions centred on the welfare and concerns of Kenyan nationals in Russia and the sustained cooperation in addressing ongoing consular matters.

The two parties reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining close engagement and advancing mutually beneficial partnerships that strengthen people-to-people ties between Kenya and Russia.

A stronger Kenya–Rwanda partnership is a stronger East Africa.

Together with Dr. Usta Kayitesi, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, we concluded the 10th Session of the Kenya–Rwanda Joint Permanent Commission for Cooperation with the signing of nine bilateral agreements.

They strengthen cooperation across security and justice, immigration, housing and urban development, water and irrigation, local governance, political consultations and diaspora affairs.

For Kenyans and Rwandans, this means closer coordination between our countries, stronger institutions, safer communities and greater opportunities for our people to live, work, do business and prosper across our region.

The agreements are signed. Our focus now is implementation and ensuring this partnership delivers tangible results for our people.

Diaspora Affairs Principal Secretary, Ms. @RoselineNjogu, today accompanied H.E. Dr. @MusaliaMudavadi, Prime Cabinet Secretary and Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs, during the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation in Diaspora matters between the Republic of Kenya and the Republic of Rwanda in Nairobi.

On Day Five of the #DiasporaMashinani engagements in West Pokot County, the State Department for Diaspora Affairs (SDDA) met with students and stakeholders at the Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC), Kapenguria Campus.

The session explored employment opportunities in the health sector under the Government's Kazi Majuu programmes, including #MuuguziMajuu, with a focus on pathways for qualified health professionals to secure gainful employment abroad through safe, orderly and regular channels.

Representatives from the State Department for Immigration and Citizen Services, the State Department of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), the County Government of West Pokot, and other partners were in attendance.

Later, as part of the multi-agency initiative, the SDDA team — joined by members of the surrounding community — took part in a tree-planting exercise to mark the launch of #MazingiraWeek. The exercise was led by the County Commissioner for West Pokot, Mr. David Saruni.
