Letter AI co-founder and CEO Ali Akhtar explains the lack of attention that enablement has gotten over the past few years:
"The way the software evolved over time is it became glorified Google Drives, right? Google Drive with a few extra permissions, which were meant to add some organization, but I think ended up being just additional knobs that you had to look after."
"And that didn't come with increased adoption. It required, in fact, a lot of work to drive adoption with the tools. And sales tools — and really all tools — are meaningless if you don't have people using them."
"That disconnect...has made it such that enablement in some organizations has come to have negative connotations. When you bring up enablement, you're like, 'Oh, that's like priority number two, three, four on my list.'"
"Whereas I think if you approach it from the mindset of actually addressing the problem space in an effective way, enablement suddenly becomes the top of the agenda."

Battery Ventures@BatteryVentures · Sep 30No two companies are built the same way. In our new series, The Founder Formula, founders from across the Battery portfolio unpack the strategic bets and defining decisions that shaped their growth journey.
In the inaugural episode, @LetterAICo co-founder and CEO Ali Akhtar joins Battery Partner @BrandonGleklen to share how he turned a firsthand business frustration into a fast-growing, multi-product organization.
When ChatGPT launched, Ali was working at a Chicago-based startup alongside his future co-founder Armen Forget. Convinced this powerful new technology would reshape how software was built and what it could do, Ali put in his notice that same day.
Letter AI grew out of a frustration Ali and Armen had both experienced: Sales enablement. Getting salespeople the tools and content they needed to engage buyers and close deals was cumbersome, while existing platforms saw little adoption.
Generative AI offered a way to make learning faster, more relevant and easier to apply. Letter is now building on that foundation with a growing suite of products that help revenue teams train sellers, respond to RFPs and engage buyers in real time.
