Did you know? ⚖️

UN data indicates that roughly 80 per cent of people displaced by climate emergencies and extreme weather events are women and children.

Ensuring gender equality in climate policymaking is essential for effective climate adaptation and social resilience. On the road to #COP31, placing women’s leadership and equitable resource access at the forefront lies at the very heart of an inclusive climate transition. 🌸🌱

Yesterday, #RWAMREC, in collaboration with the Rulindo District authorities, officiated a four-day Gender Transformation Approaches Training, bringing together district and health leaders. The training is part of the national scale-up of the #Bandebereho program, which engages men as partners in reproductive, maternal, newborn, and child health, caregiving, healthy couple relationships, and violence prevention. Through open dialogue and practical learning, participants discuss how positive masculinity, gender equality, and shared responsibility can strengthen families and build healthier, more inclusive communities.

🌍 RWAMREC's Project Coordinator Emmanuel Karamage presented today at the inaugural Africa Care Forum in Addis Ababa, sharing lessons from Bandebereho's scale-up — our gender-transformative couples programme delivered via Rwanda's community health worker system. The Forum (themed "Placing Care at the Centre of Africa's Development Agenda") highlighted that women & girls carry ~70% of Africa's unpaid care burden — worth an estimated USD 95B/year. Great conversations on why engaging men matters. 🙌 #Bandebereho #AfricaCareForum

Today, RWAMREC continued the introductory meeting for the ReGenerate Rwanda programme in Nyamagabe District, where the team was welcomed by the Vice Mayor in charge of Social Affairs and other district officials. Under the KATAZA Program, RWAMREC, in partnership with Huye and Nyanza Districts and the Mastercard Foundation, proudly concluded the 12-week JOT training this week in Tumba and Busasamana Sectors! 73 couples of young women entrepreneurs and their spouses graduated with new knowledge and skills to challenge the gender norms holding young women back from financial services and to champion gender equality in their homes and communities. The Vice Mayors graced the closing ceremonies, in charge of Social Affairs, Sector leaders, RWAMREC representatives, SACCO Loan Officers, and Growth Guides. In their remarks, leaders celebrated the partnership and encouraged couples to keep building equal, supportive households and communities. The event closed on a high note with the awarding of certificates to all participants who completed the training. RWAMREC, in partnership with @expertisefrance and Ruhengeri Level Two Teaching Hospital, has concluded training on gender-transformative approaches for hospital leadership, clinical, and support staff. A Training of Trainers (ToT) has also equipped a dedicated team to cascade the model across the hospital, embedding gender-responsive practices and helping sustain these gains as part of a broader effort to build a more equitable and dignified health system.

Youth leadership and responsibility build stronger families, communities, and a more sustainable future. 🌏

“No one does it alone; we work together.”

RWAMREC promotes gender-transformative economic empowerment by engaging men, women, and youth through the Kataza Program to challenge unequal norms, strengthen financial inclusion, and expand women’s participation in financial and business opportunities.

By sharing knowledge, building financial literacy, and creating spaces for learning, dialogue, and community engagement, Kataza creates opportunities for people to take initiative, connect with others, and become Community Activists and Growth Guides—changemakers in their communities and families.

Meaningful change starts when people come together to take action and build a future grounded in gender equality and equal opportunities for all.

This International Youth Day, we celebrate young people who speak up, take action, and inspire change—not alone, but together. 💙
