This by @emmanancycline is a masterpiece. It’s interesting that it failed to make the Booker shortlist. It’s not about a social issue. It’s - in the most focussed, absolute, wildly truth-telling way - about death, which also means life. It’s about something eternal. This might imply that art needn’t always be purely of the moment and political. Which I assume counts against it.

Thanks Josh, much appreciated !
Josh Weeks@Josh_Weeks10 · Sep 10, 2024Just finished STRAY DOGS - easily in my top 3 books of the year. Sharp, hilarious, heart-wrenching. Think part one of The Savage Detectives if it was set in Toronto. @richardjparfitt is a phenomenal songwriter but (dare I say it) he’s an even better novelist

William is hilarious on foul-mouthed matriarchs – “As I became an adult and met people from different backgrounds, I would ask them ‘Does your mother call you a c***?’, ‘No’, ‘What about your granny?’, ‘No’, ‘Okay, fair enough"

Even with an awful sound system and what looks like no monitoring the vocals are superbly in tune
Carlos 🎧 🇦🇷 ⭐️⭐️⭐️@carlosgvizcaino · Aug 29, 2024On this day in August 29, 1966, The Beatles’ final concert took place in Candlestick Park, San Francisco.
The Beatles knew it would be their last concert.
They didn’t perform live until 3 years later.

a hotbed of exploitation and suffering, dogs are being raced at barbaric rates, euthanised without cause & left to rot in metal cages when they can no longer compete - The reality is that greyhound racing cannot exist without systemic animal cruelty

Siôn Tomos Owen@sionmun · May 30, 2024Stray Dogs by @richardjparfitt is so bloody good. First book I’ve read in one sitting since Martin Amis’ Night Train but this is far better. Hints of Tyler Keevil’s scenic prose, Salinger’s burning angst of furious youth & the simmering small town violence of The Coens. Superb

Thanks to Jeremy Black at @TheCriticMag for the review. 'Parfitt’s Stray Dogs [...] offers a very different setting and tone in his potent debut novel - A tough growing-up novel, tautly written and full of reflective energy. thecritic.co.uk/murders-for-au…

Raw, powerful, and the most apt book title ever. Teenage friends, drifters of sort, tasked with delivering a special item to pay off a debt. Fasten your seat belt, Richard John Parfitt has a journey for you – Wow!
