I wrote an essay about why the next frontier for AI is the world outside the data center

Nature is a system more complex than anything we've ever created

AI can learn how the system fits together, so we can finally understand how to shape it

How?

every word of this paragraph is absolutely mindboggling

Ok this is a 60s version even better!!

I gave Claude another 18 hours.. and I think this one is the best one yet

I'm blown away

[slams hand down on table] rationality is an attempt to reconstruct judaism but using exclusively the mind instead of the heart, and effective altruism is the same thing but for christianity. motherFUCKER

This is excellent 🫡
Its pretty fucking cool that we get to live at the time when there is a "White House Accord on Super Intelligence." Lets work together and do this right.

Trump signed an executive order yesterday directing federal agencies to develop and implement, by November 27, a campaign across Washington, D.C. to reduce, by 2028, invasive mosquito populations by 90% & tick populations by 50%: whitehouse.gov/presidential-a… @chenderson

Rainmaker has raised $100M to become the world’s best lab for weather modification and atmospheric science.

Thank you @noavctech @upfrontvc @DCVC @lowercarbon @DreamVenturesVC and other visionary partners.

We are aggressively hiring and scaling our research org to create a flywheel of atmospheric data collection, synthesis, understanding, and intervention.

We will solve the weather and we will set the stage for the terraformation of Earth.

More in my essay below.

But we do need to act much faster than that if people still want to live where the beach is today. We have about 50 years or so to take action, which should be more than enough time for the space satellites to solve any heating problems.

This meme is an infoblessing because now people actively look for one of these for their respective fields

This is an amazing quote from Lindsey Graham about when he realized how politics works. theatlantic.com/ideas/2026/07/…

Today we placed posters around the country telling the story of what it means to Become a Rainmaker.

Modifying the weather requires frontier research.

Meteorology, physics, machine learning, solid state radar and optics systems, we are hiring for across all these disciplines

But, no amount of novel hardware or hours spent in the lab can actually modify the weather unless our systems are tested and deployed by humans in the field

Until teams of gritty, relentless, disciplined mountaineers deploy our tech in remote locations during freezing snowstorms—it’s all just theory.

And Rainmaker is in the business of contacting reality.

So we are hiring teams of Forward Operating Specialists to bring theory into practice again this coming winter.

In the hardest conditions imaginable, the FOS is responsible for using all the systems Rainmaker has built.

They are Rainmakers in the truest sense of the word.

They are the ones who work with nature.

They are the ones who modify the weather.

Their field work is the final factor determining whether our operations produce more water.

It is a tough job in service of a beautiful mission.

We are in search of gritty, soulful, dutiful people who want to work with nature, harness the elements, befriend the locals, and bring water where it’s needed most.

Become a Rainmaker.

Today we're launching Intercept: a $500M philanthropic initiative to make respiratory infections, like the common cold and flu, a thing of the past.

We treat respiratory infections as a minor nuisance, but that’s really not the case. Most of us will spend 5% of our lives (!) sick from these viruses, they kill 1M people a year, cost $600B annually in productivity, and periodically threaten civilization through pandemics.

So, if they’re such a big problem, why haven’t we dealt with them yet? Last year we convened ~40 leading scientists, pharma R&D leaders, biotech investors, and regulatory experts to better understand that.

We heard two main reasons:
(1) First, it’s just technically very challenging: respiratory viruses represent hundreds of distinct, mutating strains across several families. Fortunately, recent breakthroughs make this newly possible.
(2) Second is a lack of funding: broad-spectrum solutions have historically been underfunded, in part because they’re not a great fit for most philanthropic or commercial funding (and while COVID generated a burst of activity around preventing and understanding respiratory infections through an influx of new funding, that hasn't been sustained).

We think that with enough focus and funding, this might be solvable. Intercept is a $500 million philanthropic initiative that will take advantage of new tools to catalyze the development and deployment of two types of products: broad-spectrum preventatives and air cleaning technologies.

This problem is undoubtedly difficult. But it’s more tractable now than it’s ever been. We think we should give it our best shot.

We’re enormously grateful to our anchor funders: @stripe, @AnthropicAI, @TheFluLab, @FoundationOAI and individuals from Jane Street.

And, I’m very excited to be building this with @incredutility and the rest of the team.

Oh my God this is so good
