National Grid

If your car hit a live electrical wire, would you know what to do?

While driving through Gloucester, MA, our Meter Service Technician Joe G. saw a live wire across the roadway. A driver unknowingly ran over it, and the wire became tangled in their wheel axle. Joe immediately took action - signaling for the driver to stay inside, keeping others back, calling 911, and alerting our Electric team to secure the area. His calm, quick response prevented the situation from escalating and earned him a Lifesaving Award. ⚡👏

If your car ever comes into contact with a live wire:
➡️ Stay inside your vehicle
➡️ Call 911
➡️ Keep others away
➡️ Only exit if there’s fire and if you must, jump clear with both feet together and shuffle away

We’re grateful for Joe’s quick thinking and his commitment to keeping our communities safe. 💛

Our investment in the energy future of Britain and the US Northeast is accelerating. With regulatory support in both the UK and US, we are expanding the record-level of investment announced in 2024 by £10 billion to at least £70 billion over the next five years by FY2031.

This expansion recognises the broad change taking place across the energy system today. Electricity networks must increase capacity to respond to network growth and drive forward innovation in both the UK and US. The increase in efficiency will help industries grow and our customers and communities can prosper.

We welcome today's focus from the European Political Community on energy. UK-EU energy co-operation is essential for tackling energy security, economic competitiveness and decarbonisation. In particular we need to work together to make the most of the huge opportunity offshore wind and greater interconnection offers in the North Sea.

US-UK collaboration is essential to tackling energy security, economic competitiveness, and system reliability together with #cleanenergy and climate goals.

We recently announced a step up in our network investments to £60 billion across the US and UK over the next five years, which will enable economic growth, create thousands of new jobs, and enable the increasingly digital, electrified, and decarbonised economies of the future.

We're uniquely positioned to work closely with the governments of both countries, alongside regulators and industry, to balance historic demand growth, exponential increases in clean energy generation, and the delivery of safe, reliable energy to millions of people across the UK and Northeast US. 🇬🇧🇺🇸

🌍🌱 It's #NetZeroWeek! At National Grid, we're proud to celebrate our ongoing journey towards a #sustainable future.

Through innovative projects and dedicated efforts, we're making significant strides towards our net zero goals and creating a cleaner future 💡

Accelerating the decarbonisation of the UK’s energy system is critical to bring bills down in the long term, create new jobs and unlock economic growth across the country. Innovation, collaboration and urgency are key to achieving this, and we’re looking forward to working closely with government, Ofgem and industry stakeholders as part of the government’s Mission Control.

🌈 As Pride Month comes to a close, we're celebrating the unity and advocacy we've witnessed across the UK and US! Our teams proudly marched in #LondonPride, the iconic #NYCPride and many more, showing our commitment to diversity and inclusion! ❤️

At National Grid, we're dedicated to creating a workplace where everyone feels valued and respected all year round. Thanks to our amazing employees and partners for making this #Pride2024 unforgettable! 🏳️‍🌈

At National Grid, we're all about celebrating diversity, equality and inclusion ❤️⚡️

This Pride Month, our colleagues from our Pride ERG (employee resource group) are passing their flags on to show support for the LGBTQ+ community 🌈

We're pleased to share the successful completion of our £7bn rights issue, which was announced last month. This initiative is a crucial part of our ambitious £60bn investment plan to upgrade energy infrastructure in the UK and the US northeast.

Through this comprehensive investment package, we're not only unlocking substantial economic growth but also paving the way for a clean energy future. This investment will result in the creation of over 60,000 new jobs by the end of the decade, bolster security of supply, and reduce consumer bills in the long term.

We're proud to support the #3xRenewables campaign for #COP29! 🌱

Grids will play a crucial role in tripling renewable energy capacity by 2030, moving us closer to the 1.5-degree pathway ⚡️

Working with a diverse alliance of companies, the campaign aims to roll out 11,000 gigawatts of renewable energy globally 🌎
