I remember hiding it from my family, so they didn't know what was going on.

We told them after we got into YC, and they were like: ‘That was very dangerous of you. I paid a lot of money to send you to college in the US. And... what is YC?’

Their sacrifice made that choice possible. Even when they couldn’t understand the choice.

Day 3 of 20

I met my 4 co-founders in CS101 in 2015, our first computer science class.

Many Indonesian students we knew planned to go home and continue their family businesses. The 5 of us wanted to become founders instead.

Putri, my former co-founder, had built a Siri-like assistant in high school. We were all those kinds of nerds. We started building projects together during college.

We’ve gone from college projects to an acquisition to building again. We've worked and lived together for so long that we're practically siblings.

After graduation, I had 90 days to find a job to stay in the US.

My 4 co-founders and I secretly turned our college projects into a company and applied to @ycombinator instead.

I didn't even tell my parents. We got in. The visa worked out.

Still one of the scariest bets I’ve made.

As a kid I was a huge science nerd, and I kept thinking that everything in the world was already figured out.

How could anyone be Isaac Newton again?

I realized after that there are still a lot of things to figure out. You don't create new science theorems anymore, but there's a new way of discovering things, which is founding a company.

So I thought, I want to be that. There's no way I don't want to be that.

Really wanted to close a big enterprise deal we’d been working on for months.

The MSA finally came in at 5 PM on a Friday. I sent it to Arceus, got assigned a real attorney, and had a redlined version back by 8 PM.

We ended up closing the deal that weekend. 🚀

It’s hard to overstate how much fast legal turnaround matters when you’re trying to keep momentum on a deal. A few days of waiting can completely change the pace of a sales process.
