New post: Exposing an ISA for post-quantum proofs on Ethereum
tldr: With EIP-8288, users can prove private, post-quantum transactions on their own devices, and Ethereum nodes verify those proofs outside the EVM.
Each proof should show that an app's program ran correctly, so Ethereum has to pick the instruction set (ISA) those programs run on and support it for as long as smart contracts depend on it.
The choice comes down to tradeoffs between proving speed, developer tooling, time to ship, and protocol complexity.
Which ISA should Ethereum pick?

1/ Transaction assertions let wallets and protocols set guardrails on what a tx can change.
Basic flow: tx executes normally → an assertion reads the net state diff (balances, storage, code, events) → reverts the execution if it breaks the rules.

Ethereum Foundation@ethereumfndn · Oct 5Ethereum executes what you authorize. But does what you authorize correspond to what you expect? Not always.
Today there is no generalized way for onchain code to check what a txn changed and revert it. Native transaction assertions could close this gap.

It wouldn’t be Devcon without @VitalikButerin.
This November, Vitalik is back on the Devcon stage, joining builders and communities in Mumbai to question, debate and build what comes next for Ethereum.

Today the EF and OA announce zkAPI—a new means for private AI
Picture this: deposit ether into a vault, sign a zk proof, get a fixed amount of private inference. Advances like these help us move past middlemen's requirements that we link our data and identities.

Ken Liu@kenziyuliu · Oct 1Quick updates on the Open Anonymity project (@OpenAnonProject)!
1. OA-chat is live! You can now signup: chat.openanonymity.ai
2. We collaborated with @ethereumfndn (@VitalikButerin, @DavideCrapis, @VittoStack, @curryrasul) to develop zkAPI, a new zero-knowledge protocol for accessing gated / paid APIs with unlinkability. It’s like a generalization of OA unlinkable inference that also abstracts payments away. Now also available on OA-chat!
I'm excited because more infrastructure should exist where privacy and sovereignty is foundational and people are in control.

Formally verified Vyper is a milestone in itself but we believe advances in security lead the way for more than just the Ethereum ecosystem. In the long run, the whole Internet is served by the combined efforts of projects like these. We are proud to offer our support to the team
thedao.fund@thedaofund · Sep 29Ethereum security gets stronger when the ecosystem funds the infrastructure everyone depends on.
We’re excited to announce a collaborative effort with the @ethereumfndn on the End-to-End Formally Verified Vyper Compiler grant, now live in the ETHSecurity Initiatives Round.
Vyper contracts are audited and verified at the source-code level, but Ethereum executes bytecode. Everything in between depends on the compiler preserving the meaning of what developers wrote.
This grant funds work toward a machine-checked proof that @vyperlang compilation preserves source semantics, plus the infrastructure to re-verify supported releases.
The goal is a public --verified compilation mode in the official Vyper compiler, with documented guarantees and real production adoption.
The Ethereum Foundation has pledged $100K toward the initiative.
Now we have a chance to bring the ecosystem together around one of the deepest layers of Ethereum security and help build a future where critical smart contract code can be verified all the way down to bytecode.
Support the initiative:

Private communication is a precondition for a free society. Any measure that forces backdoors to encryption and metadata retention, paired with broad government discretion, enables mass surveillance powers.
