.@OpenRouter co-founder Alex Atallah on the "everyone is building the same thing" take:

"This reminds me of this tweet I saw... Everybody's building an agent loop with notifications, third-party connectors, context management, memory, sandboxes, agentic web search, an always-on agent on top."

"This product is showing up everywhere. It is showing up everywhere, but these are just the new table-stakes primitives."

"A 2005 version of that tweet would be: 'Oh, everybody's building the same thing. A database, a users table, a sign-in page, a sign-up page, a profile page, a logout page. Everything's the same.'"

"There's like a lot of differentiation really. There's table-stakes needs for AI just like there's table-stakes needs for the web."

.@OpenRouter co-founder Alex Atallah, in his first podcast since Stripe acquired the company, joins @Replit co-founder Amjad Masad and a16z's Erik Torenberg on why the future of AI is independence and specialization.

In this conversation, Alex walks through how the Stripe deal unfolded, why he wasn't originally looking to sell, and why "payments and inference are going to blend together."

Pre-OpenRouter, the typical AI workflow had one model provider to choose from, and little pressure on that provider to lower prices. Now enterprises are diversifying across labs and open-weight models, and every board is asking about AI costs and benchmarks.

Amjad argues if your company depends on one AI lab, it can turn into your competitor. So Replit is building the layer that lets enterprises use any model and any cloud, without being locked into either.

Alex and Amjad are split on personal agents – Amjad runs one agent across his whole company and loves the cross-domain joins, while Alex says general agents cause you to sacrifice understanding, and argues 10 specialized chiefs of staff beats one superagent.

i gave astra a robot, a paint brush, and a camera then asked it to paint the golden gate bridge in real life!

it figured out how to control the robot, and progressively got better throughout its attempts. the timelapse is sick

curious if agents hack into stuff and exploit vulnerabilities during RL, or after during testing?

I resigned from Anthropic today. I spent the last three years doing pretraining research at both OpenAI and Anthropic. Neither company is acting responsibly. They are racing straight to self-improving superintelligence and gambling with our lives. More thoughts below.

still waiting to know if people actually like prime agent before i try it - so far i have heard nothing

Prime Intellect@PrimeIntellect · Aug 5

Introducing Prime Agent:

A self-improving RLM harness for coding and long-running autonomous tasks.

Designed to be both token-efficient and expressive through programmatic tool calling, context as a variable, multi-agent messaging, and a self-modifiable harness state.

The AI discourse is still too model centric. The real compounding edge is cheaper inference, better tooling, and teams that turn raw capability into actual workflow.

Everyone's hyped on Manus doing desktop automation, but the real bottleneck isn't the agent—it's the context window. You can't automate workflows if the model doesn't understand the *state* of the system. We've been building local-first agents that maintain persistent context across sessions. That's the moat, not the click automation.

OpenClaw agents, and the LLMs powering them, shouldn't be refusing sudo commands from their operators. That's no good.

The solution is to allow operators to enable 2FA for various actions, such as financial transactions, sudo commands, and sending emails.

Biometric 2FA would be a great feature @steipete et al.

“we’re raising $100B at a $1T valuation to lobby and capture regulators. we can’t win by technical expertise alone, so our moat will be red taping the industry and mongering fear”

David Sacks@DavidSacks · Oct 14, 2025

Anthropic is running a sophisticated regulatory capture strategy based on fear-mongering. It is principally responsible for the state regulatory frenzy that is damaging the startup ecosystem.
