With the Atlantic as our common border, we are deepening our cooperation with Europe to strengthen our security and expand economic opportunities.

FULL REMARKS: Secretary of State Marco Rubio Speaks at Joint Press Conference in Portugal

SECRETARY RUBIO: Together we have many opportunities to expand the commercial diplomacy and relations between our two countries in ways that will bring not only profit and prosperity to our people, but ultimately bring resilience and security.

SECRETARY RUBIO: I look forward to future centuries of American-Portuguese collaboration as we create a more secure, stronger transatlantic alliance and foster a more prosperous future for our people.

SECRETARY RUBIO: I believe working together with all of our allies and partners in NATO, we can make our nations and our continents safer from foreign threats and more secure for our people.

SECRETARY RUBIO: For NATO to matter, NATO has to be strong. For NATO to be strong, its member states need to be strong. For NATO’s member states to be strong, they need to have capabilities.

SECRETARY RUBIO: Our two countries have accomplished many things together in the past and we look forward to deepening and building that relationship in the future.

It was great meeting the team at @USEmbPortugal.

Every day is an opportunity to tell America’s story. With your help, we are strengthening this historic U.S.-Portugal partnership one day at a time.

Thank you for your professionalism and hard work in advancing U.S. interests in Portugal, across Europe, and around the world.

In my meetings with Portuguese Prime Minister @LMontenegro_PT and Foreign Minister @PauloRangel_pt, I underscored the enduring strength of the U.S.-Portugal alliance.

We also discussed opportunities our two countries can take to deepen our defense-industrial cooperation.

Just touched down in Lisbon.

By deepening our strategic defense relationship and launching the new U.S.-Portugal CEO Forum, we are turning economic diplomacy into economic opportunity through greater trade and investment.

SECRETARY RUBIO: In the case of Portugal, they've been a strong ally. We have an opportunity to go there and visit with them. And of course, Greece is a very important U.S. ally.

Just departed for Iceland, Greece, and Portugal to discuss our deepening cooperation on defense and energy security between NATO allies.
