NEW: U.S. Attorney @USAttyEssayli fires back at LA Councilmember @cd14losangeles Ysabel Jurado over her criticism of the Skid Row drug raid.

“This councilwoman and LACAN are part of the problem in Skid Row,” Essayli tweeted.

He says 28 people were charged in the federal drug case and more than 40 search warrants were served.

“If the councilwoman disliked yesterday’s actions, she will be very displeased in the months ahead.”

This councilwoman and LACAN are part of the problem in Skid Row. They are fiercely anti-law enforcement and focus their efforts on protecting criminals who exploit the homeless. Under their watch, gangs and thugs run Skid Row, supplying the worst drugs imaginable, stealing money, and raping or killing anyone in their way.

Rather than working with LAPD to arrest drug dealers, LACAN advocates handing out millions of dollars’ worth of needles and crack pipes while harassing officers. We are proud of yesterday’s operation that charged 28 people with federal drug dealing and served more than 40 search warrants (all done professionally with judicial authorization). If the councilwoman disliked yesterday’s actions, she will be very displeased in the months ahead.

SKID ROW BUST: Feds execute 28 arrest warrants targeting open-air drug markets as First Assistant U.S. Attorney Bill Essayli says California's weakened laws have undercut law enforcement.

Over 100 law enforcement vehicles rolled into the notorious Los Angeles neighborhood Thursday, arresting members of the Main Street Crips, Grape Street/Raymond Avenue Crips, and Pueblo Bishop Bloods.

Essayli ripped California Democrats for gutting criminal justice laws, saying the state has "emptied their prisons and closed prisons" so that "no one faces any serious consequences on the state side."

Reminder to Scott Wiener: Your silly state laws have no force or effect on federal agents. We already struck down your laws trying to regulate federal officers (remember how you lost in the Ninth Circuit trying to unmask and ID our agents).

Intimidating federal agents and interfering with their operations is a federal felony. We will arrest and charge anyone who gets in the way of their enforcement of immigration laws passed by Congress. Govern accordingly.

As part of today's Operation #SaveSkidRow, the FBI and our multiple partners arrested 23 defendants out of a total of 28 individuals who are charged in federal criminal complaints with narcotics trafficking, including fentanyl and methamphetamine, in and around the Skid Row neighborhood of downtown Los Angeles, an area notorious for poverty, homelessness, and drug use.

FBI Assistant Director in Charge, Patrick Grandy stated, “It would be simple to overlook the crimes of Skid Row and act as if it doesn’t matter… confined to a small area and confined to vulnerable populations. Make no mistake about this operation, these narcotics traffickers are the single largest driver of violent crime in the Skid Row area of Los Angeles. Our hope is that this effort will make a difference in the communities where these defendants operated, and the lives of law-abiding residents, including our most vulnerable.”

They’re keeping the homeless addicted to hard drugs—we're talking fentanyl, methamphetamine, cocaine, and PCP…The drug dealers are very sophisticated. They know when the homeless get their public assistance benefits payments; they get them on the 1st and the 15th, and they’re there like clockwork. They're there in their fancy cars, selling the drugs and collecting the cash. Some of it we saw in today’s operation."
