From information to informed action! The Parliamentary Forum on Population and Development (RPRPD) brought journalists together to discuss the media’s role in raising awareness of youth reproductive health services and the Law Governing Medical Services.
In partnership with @UNFPA_Rwanda, the engagement aimed to strengthen Parliament–media collaboration, promote accurate and accessible information, and empower young people to make informed decisions about their health and well-being.

🚨This week, in collaboration with @UNFPARwanda, we are training journalists & Social media influencers to:

➡️understand and interpret official statistics;
➡️Identify key findings, trends and patterns in statistical data;
➡️The connection between health, economic and social data;
➡️Visualize statistics for the public;
➡️Data storytelling and multimedia techniques;
➡️Identify credible statistical sources and properly reference data.

Adolescent wellbeing depends on the support young people receive across school, home, and healthcare.

@miryanyawera a seasoned public health leader and the Head of the SRHR Unit at the UNFPA Rwanda Country Office, explored how to move from separate services towards integrated programmes that support adolescents throughout their everyday lives.

She highlighted UNFPA’s work with the Government of Rwanda to embed comprehensive sexuality education in primary, secondary, and TVET curricula, placing reliable information within the spaces where young people learn.

Her contribution also extended the conversation to parents. Supporting adolescents requires informed adults who can continue these conversations at home and help young people navigate questions about their health and wellbeing.

She further recognised the opportunity to use digital tools and AI to expand educational reach.

Together, these reflections offered a practical view of integration: strengthen what happens in classrooms, engage families, and use technology to extend access.

At our session, co-hosted with UNFPA Rwanda, this was an important reminder that effective adolescent support must reach across the different parts of a young person’s life.

Different expertise,a shared responsibility, a stronger vision for adolescent wellbeing.

These moments from AHTS@5 capture the spirit of our session, “Adolescents & School Health: Building Smarter Systems for Africa’s Next Generation,” convened by Umubyeyi Elevate and co-hosted with UNFPA Rwanda.

We brought together perspectives from health, education, service delivery, and digital innovation to explore how Africa can build systems that respond to adolescents’ realities across classrooms, health facilities, homes, communities, and digital environments.

The conversation highlighted what meaningful progress requires: schools with clear pathways to care, reliable health information, inclusive services, and technology that protects privacy, dignity, and trust.

“Learning starts with wellbeing.” This message from Hon. @ClaudetteIrere's keynote captured why these sectors must work together. Supporting a young person’s health also supports their ability to learn, participate, and pursue their future.

We are deeply grateful to Hon. Claudette Irere, our panellists, UNFPA Rwanda, the AHTS team, and every participant who contributed to this exchange and to our Umubyeyi Elevate team for bringing it to life.

As we lead the Reproductive, Maternal, Child and Adolescent Health Track, we look forward to carrying these insights into continued collaboration, with young people helping shape the way forward.

The presence of young people gave the conversation a clear point of reference: their lives, their needs, and their futures.

Throughout our Adolescent & School Health session at AHTS@5, speakers recognised the young people in the audience and the importance of their participation.

As the discussion moved through education, confidential care, digital access, AI, and inclusion, their presence kept the purpose of the session close.

For Umubyeyi Elevate and UNFPA Rwanda, this carries a responsibility beyond convening. Meaningful youth participation must influence the questions we ask, the programmes we design, and the way we assess whether those programmes work.

Young people understand aspects of their daily lives that institutions can easily overlook: where they seek information, what makes a service feel safe, and which barriers prevent them from asking for help.

Building smarter systems for Africa’s next generation requires listening to that knowledge and creating ways for it to shape decisions.

As the session closes, one message stands out: supporting adolescents requires systems that connect health, education, families, communities and technology.

From evidence to action, the conversation continues beyond #AHTS2026.

The panel brought together perspectives on adolescent health, education, digital innovation and community support, with a focus on turning evidence into practical action.

A strong reminder that supporting adolescents requires collaboration across sectors.
