Sport England's #SocialValueReport25 found that the annual social value of community sport and physical activity is £122.9bn.

It revealed that active lives each year prevented:
📉 1.3 million cases of depression
📉 900,000 cases of back pain
📉 700,000 cases of type 2 diabetes

Equating to £8 billion in direct net savings to the healthcare system through illness prevention, reducing pressure on the NHS.

Taking it back to early 2025... 👀

In February, we announced the first 53 Place Expansion Partnerships as part of Sport England’s £250m investment into Place based work aiming to address regional inequalities in activity levels.

Each area is in the top 10% of the country for inactivity, social need, deprivation and health inequality.

Fast forward to November 2025 to our recent Blackpool visit, where a further 27 Place Partnerships were announced bringing the total to 80 Sport England Place Partnerships.

Summer of Sport 2025 🏟️

This summer saw various historical sporting successes for England's women including the Lionesses #WEURO25 and the Red Roses #WRWC25 both bringing home silverware.

The Big Football Day at Central Park ahead of the Euro's kick off, powered by @LottoGoodCauses gave young girls the chance to be involved in the build up and support clubs and organisations to open their doors to more women and girls. Alice Kempski from The @FA spoke about the benefits of these opportunities and the power of football and physical activity can have on many.

Happy Holidays from everyone at Sport England.

Wherever you are, and whatever you're doing, we hope you have a great day. 🎄

November 2025 - We announced that Sport England's Place expansion is continuing with 27 new Place Partnerships as part of our £250 million investment into tackling high rates of inactivity.

Reaching across the country, this expansion focuses on the towns, cities, and communities where the barriers to activity are the greatest.

Where you live shapes your chances to be active.

Earlier this year, Sport England shared its first Areas of Research Interest - highlighting the evidence gaps and priority research topics in sport and physical activity.

We’re inviting academics to collaborate on research that tackles inequalities and drives real-world impact.

April 2025 saw the release of the #ActiveLives Adults Survey report:

🏃🏾‍♀️Record numbers playing sport and taking part in physical activity
📉 The percentage of adults who are inactive continues to fall
📈Activity levels for those aged 55+ are the highest they’ve been
📊Sustained growth in activity levels for disabled people and people with a long-term health condition
⚖️ Inequalities remain and impact activity levels

#UnitingTheMovement

The Green Runners are a community of environmentally conscious runners who have developed a clear approach to reducing carbon emissions within the running community.

While running is often perceived as a low-impact sport, the community recognised that significant carbon emissions stem from various aspects of running culture.

Carbon footprint is increased in running from:
- Participant travel
- Equipment consumption
- Nutrition choices
- Lack of environmental awareness

Think volunteering needs special skills or qualifications? 🤔 Think again!

Volunteering in community sport and physical activity is rewarding in so many ways.

That’s why #Buddle is busting myths - from qualifications to technical know-how.

In September, #ThisGirlCan's "We Like The Way You Move" hit TV screens, billboards, radio channels, social media and so much more, encouraging women & girls to take just 10 mins of movement to feel great.

Now we’re looking back at a decade of the campaign & partnerships. 💪

How has @ThisGirlCanUK inspired you to get moving?

Your postcode matters. 🏡

"If everybody can take part in sport and exercise – regardless of background, bank balance or postcode – we will all be healthier, wealthier and happier." - Simon Hayes, CEO, Sport England.

Sport and physical activity doesn't just boost fitness - it builds belonging. 56% of young people (12–17) say sports clubs and activity groups give them a sense of community.

Through our Place Partnerships we want to build healthier, happier communities for generations to come so everyone can get active.
