A celebration 3 years in the making—2020 #ShawLaureates Profs Gero Miesenböck, Peter Hegemann and Georg Nagel finally took the stage in Hong Kong in 2023 after the pandemic.
Today, another milestone: congratulations to Professors Hegemann and Nagel on the 2026 #NobelPrize!

🚀From being one of the founding members of Microsoft Research China to serving as the Council Chairman of @hkust, Prof @harryshum has witnessed the remarkable rise of #ComputerScience in China. Let’s hear what he says.

🎉Congratulations to Profs Peter Hegemann & Georg Nagel on winning 2026 #NobelPrize in Physiology or Medicine!

In 2020, they received #ShawPrize in #LifeScienceandMedicine with Prof Gero Miesenböck.

To date, 18 Shaw Laureates have subsequently been awarded Nobel Prize.

📝Your nomination matters!
The nomination period for the 2027 #ShawPrize has now begun & will close on 30 Nov 2026.

2026 #ShawPrize Laureate in #LifeScienceandMedicine Prof Anne Dejean started in a different corner of cancer research. As a PhD student at Pasteur Institute in 1980, she wondered how normal cells become cancerous, specifically liver cancer & the impact of the hepatitis B virus.

To address pure or applied mathematics—that is not a question for Prof @EmmanuelCandes, as he integrates both via mathematical analysis, becoming one of 2026 #ShawPrize Laureates in #MathematicalSciences.
Let’s hear from Prof Ngaiming Mok, Chair of Selection Committee.

Stay tuned!

✨We were thrilled to catch Prof Shrinivas Kulkarni at the #ShawPrize booth during @aprim2026!

✨Another familiar face at the @aprim2026 #ShawPrize Booth! Four days in, Prof @matthewbailes remains energetic and excited for the events ahead!

✨Prof Vicky Kaspi dropped by the #ShawPrize booth at @aprim2026, with what looks like a gold medal…but is actually our medal-shaped memo pad, a souvenir from the Shaw Prize for the conference! Prof Kaspi was one of the Shaw Laureates in #Astronomy in 2021.

✨Prof @BrianSchmidt spotted himself at the #ShawPrize booth at #APRIM2026!
Prof Schmidt was one of the Shaw Laureates in #Astronomy in 2006, and that was 20 years ago!

Directed by 2025 Student Correspondent Susan Zhang, math student @Stanford, the video drops fun “this or that” questions for Prof Kenji Fukaya, 2025 Shaw Laureate in Mathematical Sciences. Get ready for his reflections on his vocation, passions & life. youtu.be/X_d7zie82Zg

Directed by 2025 Student Correspondents Cari Tsang, Greta Siu, & Valentina Sulis, this video takes us into the friendship and collaborative journey of Professors John Richard Bond & George Efstathiou, #ShawLaureates in #Astronomy 2025.

Available now – “From Shape to Space”, the 2025 #ShawLecture in #MathematicalSciences!
In the lecture on 22 Oct 2025 @HKUST, Prof Kenji Fukaya explained a possible way to describe a space by systematically studying the shapes which the space contains. youtu.be/6gxUBJt-5qE

Student Correspondent Susan Zhang, mathematics undergraduate student at @Stanford, brings us to the complex world of symplectic geometry. From Poincaré, to Arnold, Floer, and finally…our 2025 #ShawLaureate in #MathematicalSciences, Prof. Kenji Fukaya.
