Kodiak AI

One year of $KDK. One year of driving what’s next.

Proud to be the exchange partner of @KodiakRobotics as they continue to push the boundaries of automated driving and advance the future of transportation.

Kodiak and Charger Logistics have launched autonomous trucking between Dallas and Laredo, the busiest freight border crossing in the U.S., hauling refrigerated and dry freight for consumer packaged goods and food and beverage shippers. A safety driver is behind the wheel today, with driverless planned once our safety case is complete.

“Charger came to us knowing what they wanted from autonomy and what they need to see before scaling it,” said Don Burnette, our founder and CEO. “That clarity makes for a strong collaboration.” Now we’re hauling freight on a brand new route.

As we near our highway launch, Kodiak is getting a lot of attention. This week’s highlights:
-Our CEO, Don Burnette, talks tech on Fox Biz with Varney and Co. @Varneyco
-We announce IKEA as our driverless freight rollout partner on @freightwaves.
-@bloomberg looks to companies like Kodiak on how to design a better future with AI.
-@NYPost talks about our partnership with DTL, delivering produce in California
-@CNET visited and took a ride-along, calling the experience "remarkably ordinary."

We’re on track to launch long-haul driverless trucks on the highway by EOY. Our Autonomy Readiness Measure (ARM) tracks how much of our safety case is complete. ARM hit 96% in September, up from 93% in August, our fastest month yet. See you on the highways real soon.

Kodiak now runs on @awscloud, our primary cloud provider for AI development, simulation, and safety validation.

That includes BreakPoint, our simulation safety engine, which finds edge cases in minutes that could take tens of thousands of road miles to surface. #AIfortheLongHaul

It’s been a year since we went public. And what a year it’s been. Over the past 12 months, we:

→ Scaled to 35 driverless trucks running day and night for Atlas Energy Solutions
→ Named IKEA as our driverless launch partner
→ Crossed 40,000+ cumulative hours and 3.5M+ autonomous miles
→ Designated the Dallas-Houston I-45 corridor as our first long-haul driverless launch lane

And we’re just getting started. This is AI for the long haul.

Later this year, IKEA becomes Kodiak's first driverless launch partner, with service starting on the same stretch of I-45 we've tested safely for four years.

We're finalizing the safety case, mapping out the launch details, and practicing how to pronounce "FÖRARLÖS LASTBIL." (That's "driverless truck" in Swedish.) Stay tuned. 🇸🇪

We're naming our lane: Dallas to Houston. We've run this route since 2019 on our way to logging more than 3.5 million autonomous miles. We know this lane. Now we're nearly ready to run it with no one in the cab.

Kodiak and DTL Transport have completed the first autonomous deliveries under Kodiak's new heavy-duty testing permit from the California DMV.

Kodiak's trucks are hauling perishable freight about 225 miles from Fresno to Los Angeles, with a safety driver behind the wheel.

A final check ahead of our driverless long-haul launch. A full run of the lane, start to finish, without our safety observer taking over.

Runs like this give us confidence in the target we’ve set: driverless long-haul operations before the end of the year.

Trucks pull into weigh stations so states can confirm they're safe to be on the road. Kodiak and @PrePass have built a way for a truck with no one in the cab to do the same.

Inspection status moves digitally through the PrePass network. Testing starts in Texas and Louisiana.

Loaded, a triple-trailer truck weighs about 200,000 pounds more than it does empty. Brake for the wrong one and the configuration either goes unstable or overshoots its stop. So the Kodiak Driver estimates the mass of every load before it moves it.

The long-haul Autonomy Readiness Measure reached 93% at the end of August, up from 91% in July and 84% in Feb.

It tracks how ready the Kodiak Driver is to run long-haul with no one in the cab. What's left is final engineering verification and validation.

Atlas Energy Solutions has now moved one million tons of sand with trucks powered by the Kodiak Driver.

That's enough to fill 225 Olympic swimming pools, hauled a load at a time across the Permian Basin with no one in the cab.

Localization, sensor aggregation, and path planning are latency-sensitive jobs that can't simply be spread across more cores.

The seventh-generation Kodiak Driver runs on @AMD EPYC processors. Kodiak is the first to deploy them for driverless trucking.

Moving freight is a nearly $1 trillion annual market in the U.S.

On The Driverless Digest, Don Burnette explains that Kodiak went after global logistics because the industry keeping the economy running has dealt with the same problems for decades.

A driverless truck hauling triple trailers runs 50 meters and weighs 275,000 pounds loaded. It isn't really three trailers either. Two dollies connect them, so the Kodiak Driver is tracking five articulating pieces behind the cab.

How we got there:kodiak.ai/news/driverles…

Atlas Energy Solutions owns its driverless trucks, launches them, and dispatches them.

Kodiak COO Michael Wiesinger joined The Fleet Lead on what it takes to run 35 Kodiak Driver-powered trucks inside a customer's daily operations, no one in the cab.
