Swedish 🇸🇪, Finnish 🇫🇮 and U.S. 🇺🇸 warships trained together in the Baltic Sea, integrating air defence, naval combat and precision-guided fires while building a shared operational picture.

For NATO, the Baltic Sea and Gulf of Finland are vital maritime corridors for the movement of forces, equipment and supplies in peace, crisis and conflict.

Training together strengthens interoperability, improves collective awareness and reinforces the Alliance’s ability to keep these strategic sea lines open and secure.

⚡ Two elite forces. One shared mission.

Royal Marines 🇬🇧 and U.S. Navy SEALs 🇺🇸 completed three weeks of intensive maritime special operations training during Exercise Resolute Strike in Virginia.

From vessel takedowns and close-quarter battle to directing F/A-18 strikes and integrating multi-domain fires, the training tested the ability of UK and U.S. operators to work seamlessly together in complex, high-readiness scenarios.

The result: stronger interoperability, greater tactical integration and forces better prepared for future NATO operations.💪

More than 400 personnel from 11 NATO nations trained together across Greenland — strengthening the ability to operate, sustain and fight in one of the Alliance’s most demanding environments.

Part of Arctic Sentry, the joint training demonstrated a clear commitment: Allies are present, integrated and ready to defend together across the High North.

From Arctic mobility and reconnaissance to logistics, medical support and joint operations, Exercise Arctic Shield 2026 builds Allies ability to work together to defend NATO’s north.

🌊 Seabed to shoreline. One integrated Allied effect.

During Exercise Strike Warrior 26, 148 (Meiktila) Commando Forward Observation Battery 🇬🇧 integrated with a German Navy submarine 🇩🇪 and Portuguese warship 🇵🇹 during a complex full mission profile at Cape Wrath.

The serial linked submarine ISR, covert small-boat insertion, a tactical beach landing and live Naval Surface Fires — culminating in a successful engagement and extraction.

It was a demanding demonstration of NATO interoperability, connecting specialist capabilities across the maritime and land domains to deliver coordinated multi-domain effect.

❄️ Arctic readiness is built by operating in the Arctic.

More than 350 Canadian Armed Forces personnel 🇨🇦 took part in Operation NANOOK-NUNAKPUT 2026, strengthening the ability to deploy, operate and sustain forces across Canada’s remote North.

Surveillance, air and land mobility, heavy equipment movement and integrated air, land and maritime activity put Arctic readiness into practice.

Supporting NATO’s Arctic Sentry, the operation contributed to greater awareness, stronger deterrence and collective defence across the Arctic.

Royal Marines 🇬🇧 returned to the Faroe Islands for the first time since the Second World War during Exercise Lion Protector 2026, training alongside Danish forces 🇩🇰 and Faroese maritime agencies.

At the heart of the GIUK Gap, the Faroes sit on one of NATO’s most important maritime approaches and are vital to security across the North Atlantic.

The exercise tested rapid deployment, maritime interdiction and coastal operations in demanding terrain — strengthening the ability of Allied forces to respond together when it matters.

During Exercise Atlantic Thunder 26, UK 🇬🇧 and U.S. 🇺🇸 forces combined surface, air and subsurface strike capabilities against a decommissioned U.S. Navy frigate in the North Atlantic.

The strike sequence brought together SM-6 from USS Paul Ignatius, Naval Strike Missile and Sea Venom from HMS Portland and its Wildcat helicopter, before USS Massachusetts delivered the final strike with a Mk 48 torpedo.

A powerful demonstration of integrated maritime strike — linking sensors, platforms and weapons across domains to deliver coordinated effect at range.

❄️ In the Arctic, mobility is a combat capability.

Dutch Marines 🇳🇱 have been training in Greenland during Exercise Arctic Shield, operating alongside nearly 400 personnel from Allied nations.

Using light craft, terrain vehicles and uncrewed systems, they infiltrated through the fjords, going ashore quickly and operating from forward locations.

Greenland’s 🇬🇱 vast distances, rugged terrain and limited infrastructure make this training essential to building Arctic mobility, sustainment and interoperability.

This week, we welcomed Lieutenant General Gerald Funke, Chief of the Bundeswehr Joint Support Command 🇩🇪, to JFC Norfolk.

Meeting with our Chief of Staff, Lieutenant General Dirk Faust, discussions focused on regional defence plans and the critical role of joint support in keeping forces ready, resilient and sustained.

Because credible deterrence depends on the ability to move, support and sustain the force when and where it matters.

Addressing the Command, Gen. Perry set out a clear focus for JFC Norfolk and NATO’s mission across the North Atlantic:

“The North Atlantic is once again a theatre of strategic competition. The assumptions many of us enjoyed for decades can no longer be taken for granted. That is why:

🔹Deterrence matters.
🔹Readiness matters.
🔹Warfighting matters.

And that is why this Command exists.

Our task is simple to describe, but demanding to deliver: to ensure NATO can deter aggression, defend the Alliance and, if deterrence fails, prevail in conflict alongside our Allies and partners.”
