California Forever

1/ "Give electricians and welders degrees...if you can get a degree in social anthropology, you should get a degree for being an electrician or a welder. It's way more complicated!"

@jansramek points out the obvious truth that's been hiding in plain sight all along.

Disneyland, California Adventure, and California Forever will one day be the three happiest places in California.

California’s housing crisis demands bold solutions, but state barriers make building nearly impossible. Gabe Metcalf, our head of planning at California Forever, shares with the Commonwealth Club why it’s become so hard to build in California and how a success within the state is a win for everyone.

2024 has been a year of action and progress for California Forever as we work to build the next great American city.

From designing a city with well-paid jobs, affordable homes, and clean energy to submitting over 20,000 voter signatures for the East Solano Plan, we’re committed to turning this vision into reality. (1/2)

In July, we reached an agreement with the county to reorder the steps we're going through to get our project approved. We removed the East Solano Plan initiative from the November ballot and began work with all stakeholders to prepare a single, combined set of approvals.

With the initiative off the ballot and the new year approaching, we are excited to launch a new website and return the website and social handles to California Forever—the company, rather than the ballot initiative. (1/2)

The Empire State Building, a marvel of American ingenuity and ambition, was built in just 13 months during the Great Depression—a testament to the American spirit and what can be achieved with big dreams and a willingness to work together. (1/2)

For over a decade, the U.S. has faced a critical housing shortage, with new construction lagging behind population growth. This gap has driven up home prices, increased rents, and pushed affordable housing out of reach for millions of families. (1/2)

Regulations matter. In California, housing and job opportunities are slipping away as local zoning laws and government regulations drive up costs—by as much as 40% for housing, and even more for businesses. (1/2)

Yesterday, we were announced as founding members of @newindustrials— a multi-sector trade association dedicated to ensuring that America is the techno-industrial leader of the world. (1/2)

We are thankful to call California home. The innovation, resilience, and community that make this state extraordinary prove that its best days are still ahead. Here’s to a future of keeping California great—forever.

California is losing jobs, the housing crisis is worsening, and clean energy goals are lagging—challenges mirrored in Solano County. Last spring, 12 employers committed to bringing jobs here, but action is needed to make it happen. Facing a $50M deficit, county officials can’t afford to wait.

America is at the beginning of an industrial renaissance, with careers in skilled trades offering a path to success for many Americans. Our plan embraces investment and innovation to create a compelling opportunity for Solano County to benefit from this momentum. By vastly increasing the number local jobs in skilled trades, and bringing highly skilled manufacturing jobs to Solano County, in industries like advanced manufacturing, aerospace, defense, and agricultural technologies, the California Forever project ensures that Solano County will be at the forefront of the renaissance.

California’s approach to development has failed our state. In a sit-down with urbanist vlogger, @AlexRotmensz, our Head of Planning, Gabe Metcalf, talks about the need for infill AND greenfield development. We cannot solve our job creation, energy, & housing crises without building!

The “college-for-all” model needn’t be the only pathway to economic stability and success. Rising student debt, underemployment among degree holders, and a disconnect between university offerings and job market needs has many Americans seeking alternatives. (1/3)

Medium-density communities consist of moderate building density, often characterized by townhouses, small to mid-sized apartment buildings, & mixed-use developments. They balance residential and commercial space while avoid a high concentration of high-rise buildings. Our aim is to create a complete mixed-use, medium density community.

With Solano's rich military history, the county deserves to be at the forefront of America's industrial and defense renaissance. This is one way we can continue to support our military, their families, and the greater county for generations to come.

On this Veterans Day, we honor those who’ve dedicated their lives to serving our country.

Historically, California and the Bay Area have set the pace for the country in opportunity and innovation. The iconic Golden Gate Bridge, for example, began construction in 1933 and opened ahead of schedule in 1937. (1/3)

The CHIPS Act, the Inflation Reduction Act, and the Infrastructure Act have sparked a new industrial renaissance across the U.S., reviving manufacturing jobs, fostering innovation, and driving economic growth. But California is falling behind. (1/3)

The East Solano Plan isn't just about helping to solve today's housing crisis, but about planning ahead for the future. To do that, we need a scalable community to attract the right jobs, have the homes to support them, and keep the community affordable!
