A’ja Wilson is the 2026 MVP because she was the best player on both ends of the floor at the same time, and nobody else in the final five was.
In 41 games she averaged 26.2 points, 9.4 rebounds, a career-best 3.2 assists, 1.4 steals and 1.9 blocks, shooting 52.7% from the field, 40.4% from three and 86.4% from the line.
She led the league in scoring for a third straight year, in blocks for a fifth straight year, and in both player efficiency (32.4 PER) and win shares (9.4). The scoring line is the second-best season in WNBA history. The only higher mark is her own 26.9 in 2024. She was also the first player in league history to put 25 points, 50% shooting and 40% from three on the same season.
Volume without efficiency is a usage award. Efficiency without volume is a role award. She did both, then added the rim. Thirteen games of 30 or more tied her own single-season record. Thirty-three games of 20 or more is the third-highest total the league has ever recorded. She finished with 1,073 points, second only to Kelsey Mitchell’s 1,086, and Mitchell played three more games.
