These are early steps. Proto is only as capable as the models it composes, and designs require careful experimental testing. However, the framework and experiments reinforce each other: new models can plug in easily, and reproducible model combinations make experimental readouts

Importantly, Proto is fully open-source, including the software, a web interface, and standardized access to 120+ tools, at proto.evodesign.org. We hope it lowers the barrier to composing these models and makes generative biological design more accessible.
