Capital punishment can be just in extreme circumstances if necessary to protect the common good, but not in modern America. The Bible does not mandate capital punishment in America. To argue God demands the death penalty today in America is not biblical.

I don't think he is arguing that God demands it, but rather that He permits it.

My question is how do Catholics justify their insistence that it's unbiblical to do something that God clearly justified and at one point actually demanded?
