So would you say Luther himself thought James was both heretical and anti Christian, but it was alright to keep in the canon anyway?

I would say what Luther said: A confused simpleton wrote it, mangled the true teaching in James 2 against ‘all Scripture,’ but otherwise included good sayings and truth about the ‘law of God.’ An apostle didn’t write it. It isn’t Scripture and so, in his view, shouldn’t be
